What is in the water.

Six of the 36 things a US tap can carry into the shower. Tap one for what it is, where it comes from and the limit that applies.

Chlorine

EPA's 4.0 mg/L limit applies to the yearly average of monthly results, and utilities may raise levels for a time to deal with contamination. Free chlorine fades from water left standing: DC Water says the taste and smell go within a few hours in an open pitcher in the fridge.

Chlorine, illustration
What it is
A disinfectant added at the treatment plant; a small residual stays in the water to keep protecting it on the way to your tap.
Where it comes from
Most US utilities. WHO puts typical residual chlorine in treated drinking water at 0.2 to 1 mg/L.
US limit
EPA limit: 4.0 mg/L (as Cl2), as an annual average
In the shower
Skin and hair contact. In a small 2003 lab study, healthy forearm skin held less water in 40°C water at 2 mg/L chlorine, the highest level tested, but not at 0.5 or 1 mg/L. Tubs, not showers.

Chloramine

Utilities use chloramine because it lasts longer in the pipes, and some switched to meet by-product limits (EPA). It does not fade like chlorine: Pinellas County notes chlorine leaves standing water within hours to days, while chloramine may take weeks. It must be removed for kidney dialysis and aquariums.

Chloramine, illustration
What it is
Chlorine combined with ammonia: a longer-lasting disinfectant used for more than one in five Americans.
Where it comes from
Many large utilities, including those serving Washington DC and the Tampa Bay area. Your utility's annual water quality report usually lists its disinfectant.
US limit
EPA limit: 4.0 mg/L (as Cl2), as an annual average
In the shower
Skin and hair contact. EPA says water that meets standards is safe for bathing, and that a CDC review of reported skin complaints could not draw any conclusions about chloramine.

Sediment

Turbidity, the cloudiness particles cause, is limited at treatment plants because higher levels often travel with germs: water from plants using conventional or direct filtration must stay at or below 0.3 NTU in 95% of monthly samples. Sediment picked up later in pipes has no federal limit. EPA's iron guideline, 0.3 mg/L, lists rusty color and sediment as signs.

Sediment, illustration
What it is
Loose particles such as rust flakes, scale and grit that settle in water mains and home plumbing.
Where it comes from
Iron mains and building pipes. Main breaks, hydrant flushing and repairs stir it up; hot-only discoloration often points to the water heater.
US limit
Filtration plants: turbidity at or below 0.3 NTU in 95% of monthly samples
In the shower
Mostly a nuisance: it can discolor water, stain fixtures and laundry, and clog aerators. Richmond's utility says most discolored water is safe to use for bathing and cleaning.

Iron and rust

Above 0.3 mg/L, iron can give water a rusty color, sediment and a metallic taste, and leave red-brown stains on laundry, porcelain and dishes. Connecticut's health department says iron in drinking water is not directly linked to adverse health effects. Iron bacteria, also not a health threat, can form slime in toilet tanks and plumbing.

Iron and rust, illustration
What it is
A common metal in rock, soil and groundwater; in tap water it shows up as a rusty color, sediment and a metallic taste.
Where it comes from
Natural in groundwater, so common in private wells, and from corroding old iron pipes and mains.
US limit
EPA secondary standard: 0.3 mg/L (color, taste, staining)
In the shower
Not a health concern in the shower. Iron shows up as red-brown staining on tubs, tile and fixtures, and as rusty-looking water.

Trihalomethanes

In a CDC study of 31 adults, blood levels were highest after a 10-minute shower and lowest after drinking 1 liter of tap water in 10 minutes. A Rutgers study estimated skin uptake in a shower about equals inhaled uptake. Both were small and measured exposure, not health effects.

Trihalomethanes, illustration
What it is
Four related compounds, usually led by chloroform, that form when chlorine reacts with natural organic matter in the water.
Where it comes from
Any system that disinfects with chlorine; more forms with more organic matter, more chlorine and warmer water. Listed in your utility's annual report.
US limit
EPA limit: 0.080 mg/L (80 µg/L) for the four combined
In the shower
A real shower route. Chloroform moves from hot water into the air and through the skin, so a shower adds inhaled and skin exposure on top of what you drink.

Hardness minerals

The USGS calls water soft at 0 to 60 mg/L (as calcium carbonate), moderately hard at 61 to 120, hard at 121 to 180, and very hard above 180. It describes hardness as a nuisance, not a health concern: more soap is needed to get things clean, and scale builds up in pipes over time.

Hardness minerals, illustration
What it is
Dissolved calcium and magnesium that water picks up as it moves through soil and rock.
Where it comes from
Most common where water passes through carbonate rock; the USGS found hard groundwater prevalent in the east-central and western US.
US limit
No federal limit. USGS: above 180 mg/L (as calcium carbonate) is very hard
In the shower
Hard water reacts with soap to form scum. A 2018 UK lab study of 80 people found more cleanser left on skin washed in hard water and more irritation, mostly with a filaggrin gene variant. A patch test, not a shower.

Chloramine removal Chloramine is a disinfectant used by some water utilities. Vitamin C neutralizes it through a chemical reaction: 99.9% removed in independent third-party lab testing. A chlorine-reduction claim alone does not establish chloramine performance: media, contact time and filter design matter. 99.9% removedVitamin C neutralization Not every filter targets it
Performance during use Vitamin C reacts with disinfectants as water passes through, while active media remains. Carbon can become exhausted and reactive media is consumed. Doesn’t degrade during use Media can lose capacity
Hot shower performance Our Vitamin C filtration works in hot shower water. Temperature, flow and contact time all matter when comparing filters. Some KDF and carbon-based products are also designed for hot water; media type alone cannot establish a product’s removal rate. Works in hot water Depends on filter design
Independent evidence Our filtration results come from independent laboratory testing. A separate two-week clinical study of 22 women measured facial skin outcomes, including a 26.71% increase in hydration. Skin results and chlorine testing are different evidence sets; individual results vary. Testing does not mean the complete showerhead is NSF certified. Lab + clinical testing Evidence varies by brand

Works great! Purchase this and you will be amazed how much metal collects in the filter

Works great! Purchase this and you will be amazed how much metal collects in the filter. Not only does it help to chemically correct the water but it gathers even the tiniest pieces of metal, bonus feature is that it also boosts water pressure!! I absolutely recommend this product!

Incredible Filtration!

I finally purchased a new pack of filters to replace the old one after using it for about half a year. It clearly does a fantastic job of trapping rust, debris, and impurities from the tap water. The filter casing is transparent, making it very easy to know exactly when it's time for a replacement, and the swap process takes less than a minute. I can't believe I used to shower without it! If you care about your skin and hair, do yourself a favor and get this.

Great for Hard Water

I live in an area with very hard water, and this shower head has made the water feel much softer and more comfortable. The water pressure is also just right, not too weak or too strong, and the handheld design is very convenient. Overall, I’m very happy with this product.

Cute design with misty filtered shower head

Love the design of this filtered shower head. So cute and works well. Love all the details of the instructions bc it's a lot easier to install. (The tools inside were very helpful.) I am a huge fan of the Korean filtered showers because Koreans are obsessed with good water quality. This one also helps my family and me to have a shower with clean water. The misty spray type is preferred for us bc of my little kids. And kids love to shower with this new shower head. Might buy an extra filter and Infuser.

Love this shower head!

I've been using this shower head for a few weeks and really like it. The water feels softer, and I noticed less chlorine smell right away. My hair feels smoother, and the handheld feature is very convenient. Installation only took a few minutes.

So far, great!

Love, love this shower. I already smell the difference. The town water sometimes had a chemical smell, my hair falling out. Did a ton of research, this seemed the safest. Only thing is if yr shower is not huge then it hits the back wall pretty high. I bought a shower wand holder suction cup and now its at the correct height.

I’m in love!!!!

I love this new shower head!! With that being said, I have hard water and a whole house filter and a water softener. And still any shower head that I purchase ends up full of gunk and looking horrible after a year or so. I’m hoping to extend the life with this new product. I love the smooth face and read the instructions telling me when it gets gooky soak in some white vinegar. Smart, I will be doing that. I’m also pretty short so I don’t get the ‘smell’ effect BUT I do get the best feeling on my skin. I get itchy with hard water and I used this as a hand held spray and it felt so soft and smooth. Love this and I’m looking to buy the individual one without the removable head as well.

Strong water pressure

I honestly didn’t expect to notice much, but my skin feels less tight and dry after showering now. The pressure is still strong, and it was easy to install.

Great shower and customer service

Customer service is so good, that I decided to come leave a review. I love the shower head look, feel, and flow. Id prefer a tad more water pressure, but when I remove the flow regulator, my water pressure is attacking me, so I've settled with leaving the flow regulator in. It's actually nice. They give you 2 to choose from. The essential oil things they let you sample are also really nice, and the shower feels really good. Changing filters is easy and I love it. I live in LA and I know for a fact the pipes in my area are not good. This gives me some peace of mind. The warranty is also really good and customer service is very accessible and friendly and will help you with whatever's needed. Very grateful.

Gentle and obvious difference in water quality

Swapping to this filtered shower head made my daily routine feel like a mini upgrade. The water pressure is strong but still gentle, and my skin and hair feel softer after each shower. It’s such an easy change that actually makes a difference day to day.

Upgrade your shower Experience

With recent news reporting harmful substances detected in tap water, I decided to give this shower filter a try — and the results speak for themselves. As you can see in the photos, the filter visibly captures what's being removed from the water. Before using this filter, I struggled with dry, itchy skin after every shower. After switching to this filter, my skin feels noticeably softer and the irritation has significantly reduced. If you're dealing with similar skin concerns, I highly recommend giving this a try. You won't regret it!

This filter was white a month ago! Game changer if you live in a hard water area!!!

I was really struggling with skin and hair issues. This thing has helped my skin in ways I could t have imagined! I moved to an area with hard water, I didn’t even know how much hard water could really mess up your skin and hair. I spent a year trying all these different dermatologists and being prescribed different creams to fix the issue, nothing was working and my skin was getting increasingly more bumpy and hard, as if there was a film on my skin. I started using this filter and it changed everything, my skin is clearer, it feels softer and it is reducing the level of irritation on my face and my scalp. My hair used to be really soft and over the past five years of hard water my hair had started to fall out. Since using this I am starting to notice less hair fall, and my hair looks more full and shiny. A lady at the grocery store asked me what I put in my hair to make it look so nice, and I told her I just use this second shower thing! It really made my day after almost two years of hair fall issues. I just replaced the filter and it was so dirty! Shower spray is just as strong as my old non filter one, I haven’t had it leak at all, it is easy to replace the filter and to install. I was very worried that the water pressure would change, but it hasn’t at all, if anything it feels nicer to take showers now than it did before! Highly recommend this thing!!!

Very effective if you have hard water!

I've been looking at these for a bit, glad I finally made the purchase. Love the water stream. My curly hair is looking the best it has in a very long time. Frizz was reduced tremendously!! No other changes were made, other than the shower head! Can't wait to see how my skin improves after using for a while. Exceeded expectations!! Highly recommend!

Easy to Install and very functional shower head

This handheld filtered shower head has been so amazing. I have very hard water. I've only used it for a week but I can already tell my skin feels less dry and the water pressure feels great too. This does an amazing job filtering out the minerals. No more water spots and my hair and skin are much happier! I like its ease of setup, sturdiness without the handle wiggling all around. I look forward to seeing how everything feels in a few months.

Highly recommended !

After moving, the tap water started irritating my skin and smelled like bleach. This filter fixed everything! It removes 99% of chlorine, and my skin feels much more hydrated now. The water smell is gone, and even the shower stays cleaner with less limescale. Highly recommended this!

Will it affect water pressure?

The Showerhand has 128 micro-jets. Testing at 40–80 PSI found no measurable pressure loss. Your experience also depends on incoming pressure and plumbing.

Will it soften hard water?

No. Vitamin C treats chlorine and chloramine, and the sediment sleeve collects particles. It does not remove dissolved hard-water minerals such as calcium and magnesium.
